Native American Poem - Dream Catchers

DREAM CATCHERS

An ancient Chippewa tradition
The dream net has been made
For many generations
Where spirit dreams have played.

Hung above the cradle board,
Or in the lodge up high,
The dream net catches bad dreams,
While good dreams slip on by.

Bad dreams become entangled
Among the sinew thread.
Good dreams slip through the center hole,
While you dream upon your bed.

This is an ancient legend,
Since dreams will never cease,
Hang this dream net above your bed,
Dream on, and be at peace.

Many years ago, my mother bought a dream catcher for me. This is lovely. Thank you.

Hej Teresa, it's such a beautiful legend and the poem is so beautiful too. They've got a way with words the Native Americans. It must be a lovely memory for you that your mother gave you a dream catcher.

Thanks for commenting on my blog, I am so pleased to have found your wonderful poetry blog. I wrote a poem years ago about a dreamcatcher and this reminds me of it - what it expresses, mine is not as good as this one of course... I must dig it out. I am off to read more from your pages....
